An Excellent Film For the Most Part
Horrors of War is really a dazzling movie for a low budget production. However, the limited budget does show up at times. The movie has grand ambitions, but the creators can only do so much. Therefore, the size of the cast is pretty limited for a film that is supposed to take place in the middle of World War II. There are a few moments of overacting as well, but that can be forgiven due to the great overall quality of the film. A greater number of extras would have made it more convincing, but I guess the budget didn't allow for it.
With those few minor detractions stated, I have no hesitation in saying that I thought this was an excellent movie overall. For a limited budget, I was indeed impressed with the special effects, especially at the opening of the film with scenes of combat and bombers. The acting, with a few momentary exceptions, is good and convincing. The storyline is pretty enjoyable and not so outrageous as to become completely unbelievable. The make-up is good, and the inclusion of the werewolf gives the story an intriguing twist to it.
I am truly amazed that this film hasn't gotten an American distributor yet. It has been released in Japan, with some great cover art for the DVD. But it hasn't, as far as I know, gotten an American distributor as of yet. While it might not be of a high enough quality budget-wise to get a big screen release, it certainly is good enough to warrant a wide DVD release.
Come on, you distributors out there, wake up and smell a great movie.
I give this film an 8 out of 10.
