Bruno--Entertaining As Always
Ah, good old Bruno Mattei. He is in top form in this next-to-last movie that he made. He returned to the zombie genre, and proved that he hadn't lost his touch to make a very entertaining, awful movie. It's hard to keep track of how many different films Bruno rips off in here, so let's at least list a few:
1. Night of the Living Dead--cemetery scene.
2. Fulci's Zombie--1. eye impalement. 2. Cemetery scene. 3. Location, 4. Final scenes in monastery. 5. Opening sequence.
3. Fog--How the treasure hunters are wrecked and background story.
4. A cask of wine is labelled Amontillado
5. There's even some Blind Dead in here.
Yes, I think Bruno even rips off himself in here as well. There is lots of craziness in this film. The acting isn't all that great, but what did I expect, Oscar winning performances? There are lots of hilarious moments in here. Where did the vampires come from? The make-up was good at times, and then lousy at others.
And don't even get me started on the logic gaps. They find the treasure, for example. But how do they plan to get it off the island when there are vampires and tons of zombies in the way? Not to mention their boat has blown up.
Bruno's still bad, but that's very good for those of us who love bad movies.
I give this film 6 out of 10.
